Got Nailed.

April 28, 2008 – 11:28 am
At the company picnic this year, I was running down a soccer ball when I tripped, fell, slid across a concrete path and into a pallet.  The pallet had a nail sticking out of it.  Tab A, slot B, and it's ER time for me.  The nail basically embedded itself head first (That's the flat part) into my hand.  I could not pull my hand off the pallet. Others came beside me and tried to ascertain my condition, and I told them I was stuck.  It was clear I was going into shock. A sense of calmness came over me.  It seems very odd to say that as you are stuck to a pallet by a nail.  A few people came over and noticed that it was bad.  Their response to it was one of shock and disgust.  I knew it was bad, but I was disconnected from that.  I was talking to one of the guys who came by.  After ...

Boycotting the Olympics

April 2, 2008 – 9:52 am
Sometimes people need to step in and say that it's just not right.  Sometimes people need to fight for what they believe in.  The Olympics is supposed to be about people coming together for a common cause of athletics and camaraderie.    That's not possible when you are in a situation where reporters are beaten and harassed, where citizens who dissent in any manner are made to disappear into the night, where death sentences are carried out with such regularity that there are specialized vehicles that make long circuitous trips between hundreds of town to do their.. job.  It's not possible when a group of people are systematically genocided. When two American Athletes did this in 1968 1968 protest The Olympic response was to demand the banning of the athletes and to order them expelled.   The US Olympic Committee refused, because they felt it was the right thing to do.  The IOC told ...

My New Toy

March 26, 2008 – 9:26 am
So I joined the 22nd century and purchased, of all things, a Sony Reader.  This little thing lets me read ebooks anywhere I carry it, and contains the ability to hold a large number of said ebooks.  To say I'm excited about it doesn't do it justice.  Thus far, I've already read quite a few things, and gotten started on quite a few more.  Here's what I've read so far: The Dark River, by John Twelve Hawks Judge and Jury, by James Patterson And here's what I'm currently reading: 1984, by George Orwell The Magician's Nephew, by C.S. Lewis The Bourne Identity, by Robert Ludlum Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom, by Cory Doctorow I swear, this thing is the most wonderful thing since sliced bread.  I plan on putting quite a bit of fanfiction on it and reading up on that, too.   The things I'm going to do with this are phenomenal.   I recommend ...

Welcome to my new site.

February 12, 2008 – 10:21 am
Okay, I've said THAT only about six hundred times, haven't I? I'm working on getting things together with what I actually want this site to be and do. Lately, I've begun playing BattleTech, so I imagine that a lot will be focused on that. I'm still working on the piano, and trying to get things with that progressed beyond the pain that playing 2nds and 3rds cause. Writing is still going strong, and of course, I'm reading too. I'm knee deep in the political landscape, so that's kinda fun. Next week work will have me in Victoria, BC, so I can't wait for that.. Just so many things to do, and so little time.
